WHAT is a Clinical Pharmacist?
Clinical pharmacists work directly with physicians, other health professionals, and patients to ensure that the medications prescribed for patients contribute to the best possible health outcomes. Clinical pharmacists practice in health care settings where they have frequent and regular interactions with physicians and other health professionals, contributing to better coordination of care.
WHY should I consider a consult?
-Comprehensive Medication Review by a clinical pharmacist can identify an average of 4 Drug-
Related Problems (DRPs) per patient. 1,2
-Parkinson’s movement and non-movement symptoms have a big impact on quality of life. Many
symptoms can be aggravated by medications, Parkinson’s itself and/or other medical
conditions. Having a comprehensive review can reduce your risks and optimize your current
treatment.
-Most provider visits last 15-30 minutes (or Less!), leaving little time to address several aspects
of Parkinson’s, answer questions, and explain pros and cons of different therapies.
-National Organizations and Medical Societies endorse a team-based approach for Parkinson’s
care (Parkinson’s Foundation, Michael J. Fox, American Academy of Neurology, International
Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder, NICE )
